Task Two


Down below I will list the 2016 films that have been released by each of the big six film companies, this will be useful in identifying which company has produced and distributed the best films of the last year and enable us to compare this to previous years.

Paramount Pictures- The magnificent seven, arrival, ben-hur, allied, jack reacher-never go back, fences, silence monster trucks, teenage mutant ninja turtles 2, Florence foster Jenkins, office Christmas party and 10 cloverfield lane; excluding a few more.

Warner Bros studios- Fantastic beasts and where to find them, batman v superman dawn of justice, suicide squad, the legend of tarzan, the conjuring 2, storks, sully, the accountant, lights out, me before you, the barber shop-the next cut, the nice guys, central intelligence and war dogs; also excluding a few other films.

Sony Pictures- Passengers, inferno, the magnificent seven, sausage party, ghost busters, the shallows, angry birds, money monster, the brothers grimsy, the 5th wave, the night before, concussion, spectre, freaks of nature, goosebumps, the walk, hotel transylvania 2, pixels, aloha, the interview, chappie and fury; also excluding some other sony picture films.

Walt Disney studios- Moana, zootopia, pete's dragon, the jungle book, the BFG and the finest hours.

Universal studios- The secret life of pets, Warcraft, purge- election year, the huntsman 2, hail Caesar, ride along 2, Ouija- origin of evil, the boss, bridget jones baby, neighbours 2, my big fat greek wedding, split, almost christmas, kevin hart- what now, jason bourne and central intelligence.

20th century fox- Deadpool, x-men apocalypse, trolls, hidden figures, independence day 2, assassins creed, kung fu panda 3, miss peregrine's house for peculiar children, ice age collision course, a cure for wellness, mike and dave we need wedding dates, why him, morgan, keeping up with the joneses and eddie the eagle; excluding numerous more films.

Task One- Top Films of 2016

These are five of the top grossing films of 2016, they have been produced/exhibited by two different companies from the big six which are Walt Disney and Universal.

Warner Bros. Pictures- The dark knight, the dark knight rises, harry potter series, american sniper, the hobbit series and inception.

20th Century Fox- Avatar, star wars series, deadpool, independence day, home alone and the martian.

Paramount Pictures- Titanic, transformers series, forest gump, shrek series, iron man series and the star trek series.

Universal Pictures- Jurassic world, the secret life of pets, despicable me series, ET, jurassic park series and meet the fockers.

Sony Pictures Entertainment- Spiderman series, skyfall, men in black series, ghostbusters series, hancock and the da vinci code.

Walt Disney Studios- New star wars series, the avengers series, finding dori and finding nemo, pirates of the caribbean series and the guardians of the galaxy.

Who are the big six?

Warner Bros. Pictures stands at the forefront of the entertainment industry. In 2013, Warner Bros. ruled the movie world with a market share of $5.03 billion globally.


20th Century Fox is the world’s second largest film studio after Warner Bros. The studio has distributed various commercially successful films.


Paramount Pictures is the longest operating major studio in Hollywood. It has a century of experience in finest production services from development of story idea to post production.


Universal Pictures or Universal Studios is best known for three of Steven Spielberg’s biggest hits – Jaws, E.T., and Jurassic Park, each of which became the highest-grossing film ever at the time of its release.


Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) operates Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Classics, and TriStar Pictures. The studio enjoyed its best year in terms of box-office grosses in 2012, with its films collecting US$ 4.4 billion in ticket sales.


The Walt Disney Studio’s multi-faceted film division produced some groundbreaking films, such as Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated movie, and Pinocchio, a film with intricate levels of technical brilliance in animation, that made the studio stand apart.
